At the first meeting of the Working Group on Food Supplements of the heads of the European Food Safety Agencies of the Member States (HoA WG FS) it has been proposed to review, restrict or ban 13 substances commonly used in foods and food supplements through the procedure of Article 8 of Regulation (EC) No 1925/2006, which would include them in its Annex III. The final decision will be made by EFSA, who will have to evaluate the security obtained so far. The substances would be the following:
Coumarin in plant preparations
Curcumin in preparations of Curcuma spp.
Hypericum perforatum
Essential oils of Melaleuca spp.
Melatonin
Piperine
p-Synephrine in preparations of Citrus spp.
Tryptophan
Actaea racemosa
Lepidium meyenii
Ocimum tenuiflorum
Tribulus terrestris
Withania somnifera
